The no-effort tool to help map the world

About Geo Bucket

Geo Bucket tracks the longitude and latitude of a phone as it moves, allowing roads to be accurately mapped. This information is then uploaded to the Geo Bucket website where it can be used by volunteers to map roads on the OpenStreetMap project.

This application makes mapping completely non-intrusive for anyone who travels to unmapped places but does not want to be bothered by complex editing.
Geo Bucket runs on Android smart phones, but it also supports direct uploads of .GPX files.

Geo Bucket is the brainchild of NGO Fruits of Thought.
With its technology partner Mountbatten Ltd. they encourage the growth of Openstreetmap, especially in Uganda. Geo Bucket is their first global project.

Accurate maps of remote rural areas - and the slums of big cities - can be elusive in Uganda. So smartphones are being used to map some of the poorest and most far-flung areas of the country. Geo Bucket tracks the longitude and latitude of a phone as it moves, allowing roads to be accurately mapped. Both are about to be made publicly available on smartphone platforms.
